The Blue Water Stars are a semi-professional minor league ice hockey team based in Macomb, Michigan.[1] The team is a current member of the Michigan Independence Hockey League (MIHL).


History[]

The Blue Water Stars found their home at McMorran Arena in downtown Port Huron, Michigan while beginning operations in the 2022-23 season as a new MIHL team led by Team President Austin Dunn. The Stars were defeated in the semifinal playoff round by the Waterford Sharks who then lost to the Muskegon Voyagers in the Bill Long Memorial Cup Finals. Goaltender Jack Hudec won the Boardway Memorial Award for the MIHL's best goaltender following the 2022-23 season.[2]

In August 2023, the Stars named Trevor Zelenock as their Head Coach and General Manager.[3] He became the youngest Head Coach or General Manager in league history at barely 23 years old.

Shortly after, the team moved operations to Suburban Ice in Macomb, Michigan. The team declared Chris Bronson as team captain. On October 10th, 2023 the team signed goaltender Taylor Schwandt out of Millersville University to become the league's first Female player.[4]
