The Central Illinois Flying Aces are a junior hockey team that plays as a member of the United States Hockey League. Based in Bloomington, Illinois, the Thunder play their home games at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum, located in downtown Bloomington. The USHL Thunder were formally welcomed into USHL on April 9, 2014.[1] The USHL Thunder purchased the rights to the name from the previous SPHL version of the Thunder team. Initially they kept the SPHL team's logo but rolled out a new logo and color scheme at the USHL Drafts.
The team announced in August of 2017 that they were changing their name to the Central Illinois Flying Aces.
Suspending Operations[]
On February 28, 2019 the team announced that they would not be participating in the 2019-20 season. The team completed its five year lease with the Grossinger Motors Arena and elected not to seek renewal of the lease with the city of Bloomington. The team will evaluate its options to resume play for the 2020-21 season.[2]
