Augustana Vikings

Overview[]

"Vikings" is the name of the sports teams of the University of Alberta - Augustana Campus located in Camrose, Alberta. The school is a separate campus of the University of Alberta. The common name for the team is simply "Augustana Vikings". The school was previously known as the "Camrose Lutheran College" (to 1991) and then "Augustana University College" (to 2004). But the teams have always been the "Vikings".

The team competes in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), and has done since 1970. The ACAC is affiliated with the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA), the second tier of university/college sport in Canada. They have won two ACAC titles and one CCAA title. The CCAA has not held a national hockey playoff since 2001. The ACAC is currently the only college league in Canada. However, the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) includes college teams and the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) operates a league of mostly Cégep teams.

The team also hosted the Viking Cup from 1981 to 2006.
