The Augusta River Hawks were a team in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) set to begin play for the 2010-11 season. Based in Augusta, Georgia, the River Hawks played their home games at the James Brown Arena, previously home to the ECHL's Augusta Lynx from 1998 until their folding in 2008.

On March 13, 2010, the River Hawks name was announced as the winning result of a fan vote.

April 2010 River Hawks named Rick Allain Hockey Operations Advisor. Former SPHL Coach of the Year and Peterborough Petes (OHL) Head Coach. His primary role with the RiverHawks will be help recruit coaches and personnel for the upcoming season.

In late February 2013, the ice refrigeration system at the James Brown Arena malfunctioned, forcing the River Hawks to finish out their 2012-13 home schedule at their practice facility. After team officials and Augusta city officials failed to reach a settlement on the eight home games lost due to the ice system's failure as well as failing to reach an agreement on how the James Brown Arena's ice system would be replaced, the franchise went dormant for the 2013-14 SPHL season and subsequently moved to Macon, Georgia to become the Macon Mayhem for the 2015-16 season.
