Atte Ohtamaa (born on November 6, 1987 in Nivala) is a Finnish ice hockey defenceman who currently plays with the Kärpät of the Liiga.

Club career[]

Ohtamaa began playing junior hockey with the Cowboys organisation. In 2003, he moved to the Kärpät organisation. He made his senior debut in the 2006-07 season when he played 42 games with the Kärpät under-20 team and 3 games on loan with the Suomi U20 of the Mestis.

In the 2007-08 season played Ohtamaa 10 regular season games and 2 relegation games with the Kärpät under-20 team, 10 regular season games and 1 play-off game with the Kärpät of the SM-liiga and 15 games on loan with the Hokki of the Mestis. In this season, he became the SM-liiga champion.

In the 2008-09 season, he played 2 games with the Kärpät under-20 team and 48 regular season games plus 15 play-off games with the Kärpät of the SM-liiga.

Ohtamaa continued with the Kärpät of the SM-liiga (since the 2013-14 season called the Liiga) until the end of the 2013-14 season. In his last season with the Kärpät, Ohtamaa became the Finnish champion for the second time.

In 2014 - 2016, Ohtamaa played with the Jokerit of the KHL.

Next two seasons spent Ohtamaa with the Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL. In the 2017-18 season, he became the KHL Gagarin Cup champion and was named the KHL Defenceman of the Week on the Gagarin Cup finals.

In the 2018-19 season served Ohtamaa as the team's captain with the Kärpät of the Liiga.

Ohtamaa then began the 2019-20 season on loan from the Kärpät of the Liiga with the HC Lugano of the NL. He played there 18 games before he was loaned to the Barys Nur-Sultan of the KHL for the remainder of the season. He played there 36 regular season games and 5 play-off games. In this season, he also became the KHL Defenceman of the Week on December 2, 2019.

In the 2020-21 season played Ohtamaa with the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the KHL.

In 2021, Ohtamaa decided to return to the Kärpät of the Liiga and signed there a two-year contract.

International career[]

Ohtamaa played with the Finnish National Team at the 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019 World Championships (winning silver and being named one of the top 3 players on the Finnish team at the 2014 tournament, winning silver at the 2016 tournament and winning gold at the 2019 tournament) and at the 2018 Olympics.
