
Atlantic University Sport is a conference in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS), now known as U Sports. The AUS women's hockey league is a 7-team top tier scholastic league operating in the provinces of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia. The other conferences in U Sports are the Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CWUAA), Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and the Ligue de Hockey Universitaire Féminin (LHUF). The women's conference started with the 1997-98 season. However, the first four seasons only involved exhibition play and a year end conference tournament. The first full season of the conference was the 2001-02 season.

- New Brunswick Varsity Reds (women's team was discontinued after 2007-08 season, men's program still plays in AUS)
Both of these universities are still Atlantic University Sport members.
Other AUS Schools
Cape Breton University and Memorial University of Newfoundland are also members of Atlantic University Sport but have not participated in women's ice hockey within the conference since the start of league play in 2001. Both universities at this point no longer offer men's ice hockey with CBU discontinuing the program in 1995 and MUN discontinuing the program in 1982. The St. Thomas Tommies men's team was cancelled after the 2015-16 season. The Mount Allison Mounties men's team was cancelled after the 1997-98 sason
