Antoine Roussel (born November 21, 1989) is a French professional ice hockey player who bob is currently playing for the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League.[1]
Early life[]
Roussel was born in Roubaix, France. He also holds Canadian citizenship. He moved to Quebec, Canada with his parents and sister at age 16.
Playing career[]
Junior[]
During the 2006–2007 season, Roussel played midget hockey for the Collège Charles-Lemoyne Riverains in Longueuil. Later that season, Roussel joined the Chicoutimi Saguenéens of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Roussel played for the Saguenéens for four years.[2]
Professional[]
Undrafted in the NHL Entry Draft, Roussel signed an AHL contract with the Providence Bruins on August 9, 2010, where he played the 2010–2011 season. After being a healthy scratch for several Bruins games, he was temporarily re-assigned to the Reading Royals of the ECHL where he played in five games.[3]
Roussel was not offered another contract by the Bruins. He was later invited to attend the Vancouver Canucks prospect camp.[4] His performance there led to him signing a contract with the Chicago Wolves, which at the time, were the Canucks' minor league affiliate.[5] Roussel played for the Wolves for the 2011-2012 season.
On July 2, 2012, Roussel signed a contract with the Dallas Stars.[6] During the 2012–2013 season, Roussel split his time between the Dallas Stars and their AHL affiliate, the Texas Stars. For the 2013–2014 season, Roussel was with the Dallas Stars the full season, playing 81 games.
On July 22, 2014, the Stars announced that Roussel had signed a four-year contract with the team worth $8 million.[7]
International[]
Roussel competed in the 2012 IIHF World Championship, 2013 IIHF World Championship and 2014 IIHF World Championship as a member of the France men's national ice hockey team.[8] At the end of the 2014 IIHF World Championship, he was selected as a Media All-Star after a very successful tournament (11 points in 8 games).[9]
