The Abbotsford Centre formerly the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre is a 6,653-seat multi-purpose arena in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. The arena was expected to cost $64.7-million. Beginning in Fall 2009, it became home to the Abbotsford Heat, the Calgary Flames' American Hockey League affiliate until the team relocated after the 2013-14 season.
History[]
On September 25, 2006, Abbotsford council voted unanimously to hold a referendum asking voters to borrow $85-million to fund three community projects, including a new entertainment and sports centre. The arena was approved by Abbotsford voters on November 25, 2006 with a 54.8% majority.
After the arena lost their primary tenant to Glens Falls, New York in the spring of 2014, the Abbotsford Centre Hockey League, a recreational league was formed to help fill dates in the arena.
Arena amenities[]
The arena has a capacity of 7,000 seats with room for expansion to 8,500. There are 200 club seats, 12 boxes, 20 private suites, and 2 party suites.
Misc.[]
The interior of the arena was used as the "Hendrix Hockey Pavilion" for scenes in filming the Mighty Ducks: Game Changers series which premiered in 2021 for the Disney+ streaming service.[1]
