This is the 2024-25 Canadian Senior Hockey season.

2025 Allan Cup Qualifying[]

All of the spots except one was by invitation or by virtue of being the host team. The only spot in the tournament that was not automatic was the spot reserved for the winner of the Ontario Elite Hockey League playoffs. In May of 2024 it was announced that Newfoundland would serve as the host for the 2026 Allan Cup. However, due to the Innisfail Eagles withdrawing from hosting the possibility of them hosting in 2025 was a possiblity until it was announced that it would be held in Ontario. On February 27, 2025 the 2026 Allan Cup was announced as being held in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador, hosted by the Conception Bay Blues.[1]

Allan Cup Eligible Leagues[]

The only league in Canada where all of the members are registered at the Senior AAA level for 2024-25 are the Ontario based Allan Cup Hockey and the Ontario Elite Hockey League.

Senior AA/Senior A[]

Nova Scotia[]

Two leagues in the province were working on getting off the ground for the 2024-25 playing season. Major Series Hockey and the Nova Scotia Legends Hockey League. MSH was still working on final details in mid-November to get the league started for the 2024-25 season while NSLHL has been quiet since a small tournament held in March of 2024. Despite the inability to get either league started for the 2024-25 season, a 2025-26 province-wide league, the Nova Scotia Hockey League was announced on February 17, 2025.[2]

New Brunswick[]

On December 6, 2024 the Southern Senior Hockey League announced that the league would be unable to continue for the season and would take a one-year hiatus.[3]

Prince Edward Island[]

The West Prince Senior Hockey League is replaced by the Prince County Senior Hockey League

Quebec[]

The league champions advance to the 2025 Manitoba Cup, which is the provincial Senior A Playoffs.

Saskatchewan[]

The Saskatchewan Hockey Association holds provincial playoffs separate of the league playoffs. There are four class champions (A (Henderson Cup), B (Yorkton Terrier Trophy), C (Jack Abbott Memorial Trophy), and D (J.W. Hamilton Trophy). Classification is based on community population).

Word of a new senior league came out in mid-August of 2024. The league will be named the Prairie Men's Hockey League. The initial release indicated it will start with the 2024-25 season with teams already committed from Indian Head, Cupar, Ituna, and Strasbourg.[7]

Alberta[]

The league champions as well as a host team qualify for the 2025 Alberta Senior AA playoffs. The furthest advancing playoff Alberta-based team in the North Peace Hockey League is also eligible as well but has not recently participated in the event. The East Central Senior Hockey League is a Senior A league and is not eligible to participate in the event. The event was not held in 2024 as decided by Hockey Alberta; but, the event is returning for 2025. The tournament would end up being cancelled about ten days ahead of the event

British Columbia[]

  • The Nanaimo Steelmen return to play for the first time in about 20 years for the 2023-24 season and are working on reforming the West Coast Senior AA Hockey League. The league is being played on an informal basis to get teams in enough games to qualify for the Coy Cup playoffs.

The British Columbia Men's senior "AA" championship for the province is called the Coy Cup. The 2025 Coy Cup held March 25-19, 2025 in Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

The league would post on Facebook that it would be holding an annuary general meeting for 2024-25 but that it would no longer be a regular season league and would solely focus on its' two annual tournaments a Christmas 4 on 4 tournament and the Toonik Time Tournament in the spring.[8]
