The 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine is an ongoing military conflict involving Russia and Ukraine.
Hockey Related Consequences[]
As a result of the invasion, the International Ice Hockey Federation has banned teams representing Russia in international competitions such as World Championships and other high profile events. Many other International Sports governing bodies have also done the same such as FIFA.
On 25 February 2022, Jokerit announced their withdrawal from the Kontinental Hockey League for the remainder of the season, including the playoffs, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[1] Their first round opponents Spartak Moscow were given four forfeit victories and progressed to the second round of the playoffs.[2] Dinamo Riga subsequently also withdrew from the league for the same reason.[3]
