This is the 2022 Centennial Cup, which is Canada's National Junior A Championship. the event will be held May 10 to 15, 2022 at Affinity Place in Estevan, Saskatchewan hosted by the Estevan Bruins of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. The Canadian Junior Hockey League consist of over 100 teams from 8 provinces and 9 states across 9 leagues. The host, the Alberta Junior Hockey League playoff champions, and winners of three regional tournaments advance to the tournament.

Revised Format

On March 22, 2022 Hockey Canada announced the expansion of the tournament for the 2022 edition with all nine league champions directly advancing to the tournament. The event will now be held May 19-29, 2022. The event will still be held in Estevan and the Estevan Bruins will still participate as the host team. A revised scheduling format will be announced prior to the start of the tournament. The 2022 Esso Cup (Female U18 AAA national championship) and 2022 Telus Cup (Male U18 AAA national championship) were moved to a central location in Alberta as part of the same announcement with a new date of May 16-22.


The bid being awarded to Estevan was announced on May 18, 2021.[1]

Originally planned participants

The qualification was changed slightly as a result of the withdrawal of the British Columbia Hockey League from the Canadian Junior Hockey League after the end of the 2020-21 playing season. The winner of the playoffs for the Alberta Junior Hockey League will directly qualify for the tournament as opposed to the previous format of having to play the BCHL playoff champions in a best-of-seven playoff for the Doyle Cup and the Pacific region seed in the tournament.

Revised List of Participants

As a result of the Estevan Bruins hosting the 2022 Centennial Cup and winning the SJHL playoffs, the Flin Flon Bombers advance to the Centennial Cup tournament as SJHL league representative.
