The 2022–23 PWHPA season is the 4th season of the ongoing strike by the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association.
Formed after the collapse of the CWHL in 2019, the organization consists of over 150 women's ice hockey players sitting out current leagues in North America. For the 2020–21 season, the PWHPA is organized into five different hubs, each of which fields a roster which will compete in exhibition games across North America and in the Dream Gap Tour tournament against each other.[1] Three of the hubs are in Canada, in Montréal, Toronto (Sonnet), and Calgary (Team Scotiabank), and two are in the United States, in the Greater Boston area (Team Bauer) and in Minnesota.
League business[]
- The league is down to four teams with Team Bauer not being part of the league this season.
On June 30, 2023 the assets of the Premier Hockey Federation were acquired by a group of busines and philantropic leaders including tennis legend Billie Jean King, with the intent of working with the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association to form a new women's league to begin play in January of 2024. The new organization did not announce a new name for the league to be formed.[2]
