The 2021 Memorial Cup is the Major Junior championship of Canada. The event was scheduled to be held at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa, Ontario and be hosted by the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League. The dates and exact format had not been confirmed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing and ever changing restrictions as the pandemic has had spikes and declines in the number of cases at various times.
In late October 2020, as part of the OHL releasing its plans for playing the 2020-21, apparently the event was shortened to a four day event from the traditional nine day format to be held June 17 to 20, 2021. This time frame would mean two games each day for three days with the top two teams meeting in the final. No announcement was made as far as attendance or if the event will be moved due to social gathering restrictions, which as of the time of the announcement was no gathering of more than 10 at a time.[1]
On April 13th the Canadian Hockey League announced the cancellation of the tournament due to logistical issues caused by the pandemic.[2]
