This is the 2021 Cyclone Taylor Cup, the Junior B ice hockey Provincial Championship for British Columbia. This marks the 55th time the tournament has been scheduled. The tournament was to be hosted by the Delta Ice Hawks of the Pacific Junior Hockey League. The event was to be held at the Ladner Leisure Centre in the community of Ladner in Delta, British Columbia.
The tournament would be cancelled on January 5th when BC Hockey announced that tournament would be cancelled due to restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic along with the 2021 Coy Cup which is the provincial Senior AA championship.[1][2] This marks the second year in a row that the tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Traditionally, the three league champions of British Columbia's Junior B leagues and the host team will meet in a single round robin tournament with the first and second place teams from the round robin meeting in the championship game for a berth in the Keystone Cup, which was the Western Canada Junior B championship. However, during the 2017 off season both representatives (the three BC based leagues themselves as Hockey BC does not mandate participating in regional and national events) and governing body (Hockey Alberta) announced that the teams would no longer participate in the event. A possible tournament for teams from British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan had been mentioned for either 2018 or 2019 but nothing has been officially announced.
