
This is the 2020-21 Southern Professional Hockey League season. This is the league's 16th season.
According to a release on October 6, 2020, The SPHL will proceed with a 42-game season that includes five of its member teams, the Macon Mayhem, Pensacola Ice Flyers, Birmingham Bulls, Huntsville Havoc, and Knoxville Ice Bears. Along with the Rail Yard Dawgs, the Quad City Storm, Peoria Rivermen, Evansville Thunderbolts and Fayetteville Marksmen have opted out.[1]
Membership Changes[]
- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Evansville Thunderbolts, Fayetteville Marksmen, Peoria Rivermen, Quad City Storm, and Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs announced that they will opt out for the 2020-21 season.
- On March 10th the league announced the addition of the Vermilion County Bobcats to the league for the 2021-22 season. The team will be based out of the David S. Palmer Arena in Danville, Illinois.[2] The arena had been home to the Danville Dashers of the Federal Prospects Hockey League since the 2011-12 season but the team was siting out the 2020-21 season. The city of Danville had recently voted to cancel the FPHL team's lease.[3]

Playoffs[]
The top four teams qualify. The teams are paired off 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 meet in best-of-three semifinal series. The semifinal series winners meet for the league championship in a best-of-three series.
