This is the 2018 Atlantic Region Allan Cup Qualifier.

The four Atlantic Canada provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island make up this region.

Due to several issues with various teams and organizations the tournament was not needed and the Elsipogtog Hawks would advance to the 2018 Allan Cup as the Atlantic Region representative.

Provincial Qualifying[edit | edit source]

Newfoundland and Labrador[edit | edit source]

By virtue of winning the 2017 Herder Memorial Trophy, the Harbour Grace Cee Bee Stars earned the right to represent the province in the 2018 Allan Cup qualifier events.  However, the team declined to compete in Allan Cup qualifying.  Due to this happening both the Clarenville Caribous (who finished as runner up for the Herder Memorial Trophy) and the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts (who won the 2017 Allan Cup after qualifying for the tournament via winning the 2016 Herder Memorial Trophy and qualified for the Allan Cup as the Atlantic Region representative) have registered as Senior AAA for 2017-18.  Based on fact there was a 2017-18 Central West Senior Hockey League Season then the Clarenville Caribous were to have been the provincial representative. If there had been no league, it would have been possible that the two teams would have played a playoff for the spot, as the Avalon East Senior Hockey League has removed imports from its rosters and later had four of five members withdraw to form the East Coast Senior Hockey League.

In mid-October Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador had requested that the Clarenville Caribous not participate in the qualifying due to the fact that it would have shortened the various league and provincial playoffs for this year and cost several teams quite a bit of revenue as several of the teams are on shaky financial ground.[1]

New Brunswick[edit | edit source]

The Elsipogtog Hawks finished as runner up in the 2016-17 North East Senior Hockey League Season playoffs to the Montague Stallions (who are based out of Prince Edward Island).  Hockey New Brunswick decided that the furthest advancing New Brunswick team in the North East Senior Hockey League from the previous season will be the provincial representative for the 2018 Allan Cup qualifying.

Prince Edward Island[edit | edit source]

The Montague Stallions of the New Brunswick based North East Senior Hockey League are the sole Senior AAA team in the province and would have been the provincial representative for the 2018 Allan Cup Qualifying.

The team would have several issues and apparently had to fold in December.

Nova Scotia[edit | edit source]

There are no teams registered at the Senior AAA level in Nova Scotia for the 2017-18 season
