The 2018 Anavet Cup is for the Manitoba/Saskatchewan Junior "A" Championship.
The best of seven game series is between the Turnbull Cup and Canalta Cup Champions.
The winner advancing to the 2018 Royal Bank Cup tournament for the Canadian Championship.

The event is being held for the first time since 2012 when it was announced that the tournament was replaced by the Western Canada Cup.  It was announced prior to the 2017 tournament that the WCC would be abandoned for 2017-18 due to cost concerns and return to the Anavet Cup and Doyle Cup formats which were used prior to 2013.

Due to the Saskatchewan representative having home ice advantage for the 2012 tournament the Manitoba representative would have home ice for the 2018 tournament.  The one format change from 2012 was that the games were scheduled in a 2-3-2 format to reduce travel expenses.  The previous editions used the 2-2-1-1-1 format.

On April 21, 2018 the Steinbach Pistons earned the Manitoba Junior Hockey League spot in the tournament when they won the 2018 Turnbull Cup playoffs defeating the Virden Oil Capitals 4 games to 2.

On April 24, 2018 the Nipawin Hawks earn the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League spot in the tournament when they won the 2018 Canalta Cup playoffs defeating the Estevan Bruins 4 games to 3.
