This is the 2016 Russ Barnes Trophy tournament.  The tournament was for the Alberta Junior B Provincial championship.  The tournament winner advances to the 2016 Keystone Cup. The tournament was held at the Red Deer Arena and hosted by the Red Deer Vipers


The tournament will have the host team (Red Deer Vipers) along with the league playoff champions for the Calgary Junior Hockey League (CRAA Gold) Heritage Junior B Hockey League (Mountainview Colts) and the North West Junior Hockey League (North Peace Navigators),  along with the playoff champions and runners-up from the Capital Junior Hockey League (North Edmonton Red Wings and Wetaskiwin Icemen), and the  North Eastern Alberta Junior B Hockey League (Wainwright Bisons and Killam Wheat Kings).


The eight participants are divided up into two-four team pools.  Each pool plays a single round robin.  The first place team in one pool will play the second place team in the other pool in the semifinals with the winners meeting in the championship game and the losers meeting in the consolation game.  The tournament champion will advance to the 2016 Keystone Cup being held at the Co-Operators Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan and hosted by the Regina Capitals of the Prairie Junior Hockey League.
