
The 2016 Royal Bank Cup (Canada's National Junior A Championship) was held in May 2016 in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. Hockey Canada awarded the event on June 3, 2014. The tournament was hosted by the Lloydminster Bobcats of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. The games were played at the Centennial Civic Centre.
Suspensions[]
The head coach of the Brooks Bandits, Ryan Papaionnou was suspended for 15 games and assistant coach Scott Cunningham was suspended for five games and the Bandits organization was fined $15,000 by the Canadian Junior Hockey League as a result of the conduct exhibited during the semifinal game on May 21 between Brooks and Kelowna. In the July 16 release of the fine and susupensions the CJHL stated that "the discipline was meant to deter similar conduct with other teams and personnel from across the CJHL in the future."

Format[]
The teams play a single round robin with the fifth place team being eliminated. The first place team playing the fourth place team and the second place team playing the third place team in the semifinals and the semifinal winners play for the Royal Bank Cup. Each game is worth 3 points (3 points for a regulation time win, 2 points for an overtime win, 1 point for an overtime loss, 0 points for a regulation time loss)
