The Coy Cup

The Whitehorse Huskies are based out of the Yukon but play under the authority of BC Hockey and were eligible for the tournament

Qualifying[]

  • The Terrace River Kings qualified as host team.
  • The Smithers Steelheads, Central Interior Hockey League playoff champions
  • The Fort St. John Flyers qualified as being the defending Coy Cup champions.  The defending cup holder does not traditionally qualify automatically; however the Flyers did not finish in first place in their division in the CIHL for the 2015-16 season and this meant an extra round of playoffs for them and they were not able to schedule a qualifier series for the event and BC Hockey decided to allow the Flyers direct entry into the tournament.
  • A playoff qualifier involving the Powell River Regals playing the North Island Capitals from Port Hardy in  the first round.  This series was won by the Regals 2 games to none (6-3, 4-3 (ot)).  The Regals will play the Whitehorse Huskies on March 11-13 in a best-of three series for the final spot in the tournament.  The Huskies won the series 2 games to one (13 -5, 2-7, 8-3)  to claim the final spot in the tournament.
