Due to the 2009 Allan Cup being held in Steinbach, Manitoba the 2009 Rathgaber Cup was not needed due to the fact that no team from Quebec or Atlantic Canada was participating in Allan Cup qualifying. Traditionally, the host branch would receive the unused bid (the second bid was split among the two regions of Ontario) and the regional bid would go to the team that would have been the final opponent in qualifying.
