The 2009 ECHL All-Star Game will be the ECHL's 17th edition of the exhibition game and will be the all-star game of the 2008-09 season. The game will be held at Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania, home of the Reading Royals and take place on Wednesday, January 21, 2008. The game will mark the first time that a city has hosted the event more than once, as Reading hosted the 2005 edition of the game as well. The 2005 All-Star Game was also the last time that an American Conference city had hosted the event.

Skills Challenge

On Tuesday, January 20, 2008, the 12th edition of the ECHL All-Star Game Skills Competition was held. The Skills Challenge featured seven events and ended with the National Conference winning the competition 9–7. It was the National Conference's second straight victory in the Skills Challenge and their fourth victory in the last five competitions.

Puck Control Relay

The National Conference won the Sherwood Hockey Puck Control Relay. The National Conference team for the relay consisted of Matt Shasby (Alaska), Justin Taylor (Las Vegas) and Matt Pope (Bakersfield). The American Conference team for the relay consisted of Travis Morin (South Carolina), Barret Ehgoetz (Cincinnati) and Jarret Lukin (Dayton). In the Sherwood Hockey Individual Puck Control Relay, the American Conference's Johann Kroll (South Carolina) defeated the National Conference's representative Ryan Huddy (Stockton)
