The 2008 Coy Cup was scheduled to be held in Terrace, British Columbia in early March hosted by the Terrace River Kings.
About two weeks before the tournament was to be held it was cancelled The Rossland Warriors announced they would not be participating in the tournament. The Omineca Ice were then asked to participate in the tournament but the team had already disbanded (with the players cancelling their requests for vacation time at their jobs) after losing in the 2007 CIHL playoffs semifinals. There was not enough time to get a fourth team to participate in the tournament and the British Columbia Amateur Hockey Association decided that a three team tournament was not acceptable. So it was decided that the winners of the Central Interior Hockey League playoffs would win the Coy Cup for 2008. The Kitimat Ice Demons defeated the Houston Luckies two games to one in the semifinals and defeated the Williams Lake Stampeders in the final to win the CIHL playoffs and the Coy Cup.
