The 2008–09 Kelowna Rockets season is the franchise's 18th season in the Western Hockey League (WHL). The team entered the season as last year's second placed team in the B.C. Division, and fifth placed team in the Western Conference, with a total of 84 points. They are looking to improve upon their 38–26–8 record from their 2007–08 season. They will conclude the regular season against the Spokane Chiefs on March 15, 2009. [1]
Nine members of the Rockets attended NHL training camps this year. Luke Schenn was in Toronto, Tyler Myers in Buffalo and Brandon McMillan with Anaheim. Colin Long attended the Phoenix Coyotes training camp, while goaltender Torrie Jung was in Tampa Bay. Cody Almond was with Minnesota while Tysen Dowzak received a tryout with the New York Rangers. Lucas Bloodoff also received a tryout with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Jamie Benn is the only player to sign, as he attended the Dallas Stars training camp. The nine players attending pro camps was a team record. [2]
