This was the 2002-03 United Hockey League season.

Franchise changes

• The Port Huron Border Cats were renamed the Port Huron Beacons.
• The Asheville Smoke folded
• The Knoxville Speed folded but the city got a franchise in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League known as the Knoxville Ice Bears.
• B. C. Icemen folded when the Ottawa Senators of the NHL relocated their AHL affiliate to Binghamton, the Binghamton Senators.
• The New Haven Knights folded
