Franchise changes[]
- The Port Huron Border Cats were renamed the Port Huron Beacons.
- The Asheville Smoke folded
- The Knoxville Speed folded but the city got a franchise in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League known as the Knoxville Ice Bears.
- B. C. Icemen folded when the Ottawa Senators of the NHL relocated their AHL affiliate to Binghamton, the Binghamton Senators.
- The New Haven Knights folded
