The 2000 IIHF World Women Championships Pool B were held between March 20-March 26, 2000 in the cities of Liepaja and Riga in Latvia. Kazakhstan won the tournament with an impressive performance winning all three of their final round matches.

2000 Qualification Tournament[]

Once again, eight teams took part in the Pool B world championships with the teams listed below:

  •  Czech Republic - Finished 4th in 1999 Group B
  •  Denmark - Finished 6th in 1999 Group B
  •  France - Finished 3rd in 1999 Group B
  •  Italy - Winners of Qualification Tournament
  •  Kazakhstan - Winners of Qualification Tournament
  •  Latvia - Finished 5th in 1999 Group B
  •  Norway - Finished 2nd in 1999 Group B
  •  Switzerland - Finished 8th and relegated from 1999 World Championship

World Championship Group B[]

The eight participating teams were divided up into two seeded groups as below. The teams played each other once in a single round robin format. The top two teams from the group proceeded to the Final Round, while the remaining teams played in the Consolation Round. The teams would carry forward any matches against teams that that they have already played in the first round, leaving just two matches to be played in the final round.

The winning team in the tournament was promoted to the 2001 World Championship, while the bottom two teams would be relegated to the 2003 Group B Qualification tournament.
