Franchise changes[]
- The Thunder Bay Thunder Cats relocated to Rockford, Illinois and were renamed the Rockford IceHogs
- The Madison Monsters relocated to Knoxville, Tennessee and were renamed the Knoxville Speed.
- The Winston-Salem Icehawks relocated to Glens Falls, New York and were renamed the Adirondack IceHawks replaceing the departed Adirondack Red Wings of the American Hockey League.
- The Madison Kodiaks were added as an expansion team to replace the departed Madison Monsters franchise.
- The St. Charles, Missouri based Missouri River Otters were added as an expansiion team.
- The Saginaw Gears relocated to Massillon, Ohio on December 20th and were renamed the Ohio Gears, the franchise would fold after the season.
