The 1997-98 WPHL season was the 2nd season of the Western Professional Hockey League. The league brought back all six teams from the inaugural season and added francises in Fort Worth, Texas, Lake Charles, Louisiana, Monroe, Louisiana, Odessa, Texas, San Angelo, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana.
The 12 teams each played 69 games including each team playing a home game against Russian Super League side Chelyabinsk Traktor, who were touring the southern United States. The Fort Worth Brahamas finished first overall in the regular season. The El Paso Buzzards repeated as President's Cup champions.

With the league expanded to 12 teams, the league was realigned to include two separate divisions, Eastern and Western.
