The 1996 IIHF Women's Pacific Rim Championship was held between April 1–6, 1996. The tournament was held in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.
Canada won their 2nd title in this event completing a 100% record in this competition as it would be the last year that it was held. The Canadians won all of their games in a convincing fashion defeating the United States 4-1 in the Final.
This tournament also served as qualification for the 1997 World Championships with the top three teams Qualifying making it the first time that Canada or the United States had to qualify for the tournament.

The teams would first play a full round robin against each other. After these three games, all teams would proceed to the Semi-Final where it would be 1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd, with the winning teams meeting in the final.
