This is the 1987 NCAA Division III Men's Hockey Championship. This is the fourth time the event was held.

In 1990 the appearance and statistics for Plattsburgh State (and its' players) were later vacated by the NCAA Committee on Infractions, due to violations of NCAA rules by the school's hockey program.

The Plattsburgh Cardinals coached by Steve Hoar won the tournament.  The championship game was attended by 4,000 at the Cardinals home rink, the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.
