This is the 1986-87 season of the All-American Hockey League. It was the league's first season. The league was formed out of the ashes of the Continental Hockey League which folded after the 1985-86 season. The Danville Fighting Saints, Dayton Jets, and Troy Sabres formed the AAHL after the folding of the CHL. The league added two new teams the Jackson All-Americans out of Jackson, Michigan and the Downriver Stars based out of Trenton, Michigan.
