Off-season[]
Eddie Johnston, who had been the interim general manager, was awarded the GM title in June. He named Lou Angotti to take over the coaching duties.[1]
A controversy surrounding the end of the 1983-84 season was the apparent throwing of games by the Pittsburgh Penguins in order to secure Lemieux as a draft pick. Angotti later admitted this, though Johnston has not.[2]
