The Los Angeles Blades and San Francisco Shamrocks both folded on January 18, 1979, because of financial problems.
The playoffs were cancelled. There was no ice in Tucson. The ice machine in Spokane was broken. There were very few dates available in Phoenix and San Diego.
The league folded after this season. All the teams also folded except for the Spokane Flyers who rejoined the Western International Hockey League.
