1975–76>

The 1974–75 San Diego Mariners season was the 1st season of the San Diego Mariners in the World Hockey Association (WHA). The franchise was formerly named the New Jersey Knights. The Mariners finished 2nd in the Western Division and lost in the Semi-finals to the Houston Aeros 4 games to 0.

Off-season

After two seasons in the greater New York City area as the New York Raiders and New Jersey Knights, the franchise relocated to the city of San Diego, California.

The Mariners inaugural jersey colours were dark orange, white and dark blue with a primarily white home jersey and a primarily dark orange away jersey. They'd stay with these colours throughout the club's existence. The home jersey had five stripes on the arms and body while the away jersey had three. The numbers were outlined but the names were not and there was no nameplate. A secondary logo was placed on the right shoulder within an outlined shoulder yoke. The secondary logo was a roundel that contained a hockey-playing sailor against a ship's wheel and "SAN DIEGO MARINERS" ringed around. The main logo on the jersey front was the words "SAN DIEGO" spelled diagonally.

Pre-season

On October 5, 1974, the Mariners won an exhibition game 4-3 against the California Golden Seals.
