The end of the league[]

After this season, this league folded. It had been under pressure from the newly-formed World Hockey Association (WHA) for both players and markets.

Seattle, Denver, and Salt Lake entered the Central Hockey League. The Phoenix Roadrunners joined the WHA essentially intact. Portland joined the Western International Hockey League but only played a partial season in the WIHL. They then joined the Pacific Northwest Hockey League in 1975-76.
