  • 17th: National Hockey League president Clarence Campbell gets pelted with eggs, vegetables and other debris while he attended the Montreal Canadiens vs. Detroit Red Wings game in Montreal, as a response of angry fans toward the suspension of Richard. A tear gas bomb exploded in the Montreal Forum and a riot erupted in the streets of the city, causing for $500,000 of damages and resulting in the arrest of hundreds of civilians; 12 policemen and 25 civilians were injured in the event.
