This is the 1949-50 season of the Western Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union. It was the last competition for the Halpenny Trophy. It was replaced the next season by the Hardy Trophy. Only two teams participated.

This was University of Alberta's 9th straight Halpenny Cup win since the first in 1935-36. The competition had been suspended for World War II. The Halpenny Cup was now retired and given to Alberta. The Hardy Trophy replaced it next season.
