Charlie Gardiner Memorial Series
The Charlie Gardiner Memorial Series for 1944-45 was a mid season two game total goal series between the top team from each division. The winner received the Charlie Gardiner Memorial Trophy. The series had been dormant for eight years. Charlie Gardiner, raised in Winnipeg, was considered the greatest goalie of his era. In 1934 after leading the Chicago Black Hawks to their first Stanley Cup, he died of a brain hemorrhage at the age of only 29.
