The 1941–42 Brooklyn Americans season was the 17th and last season of the Americans franchise. The Americans finished in last place and did not qualify for the playoffs. After the season, the team was suspended. Although there were several plans to restart the franchise after the Second World War, none came to be.
Offseason[]
The team's name was changed to the Brooklyn Americans and the team moved its practices to the Brooklyn Ice Palace.[1] The club would continue to rent Madison Square Garden for games.
Pre-season[]
The Americans played a three game series against the New York Rangers in western Canada:
- Saturday, October 25 Americans 2 Rangers 1 @ Port Arthur
- Monday, October 27 Rangers 1 Americans 1 @ Winnipeg
- Wednesday, October 29 Rangers 8 Americans 3 @ Winnipeg
The series was split with one win each and one tie.
Regular Season[]
Earl Robertson, Nick Knott, Sweeney Schriner, November 30, 1941.
Harvey "Busher" Jackson became one of the longest holdouts on record when he refused to sign. He was then sold to the Boston Bruins. But the Amerks had two positive notes: two defencemen, Tommy Anderson and Pat Egan, were now All-Star calibre. That didn't prevent them from finishing last, though.
The season started respectably for the Americans with a 3-3 record before going through an eleven-game losing streak from November 22 through December 16. The United States entered World War II after the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, and the Americans suspended operations after the season, expecting many of their players to enlist.
