The 1935–36 New York Americans season was the Americans' 11th season of play. Under coach Red Dutton, the team improved to 3rd place in the Canadian Division and qualified for the playoffs, for only the second time in the team's history. The club won its Quarter-final series against the Chicago Black Hawks, before losing in the Semi-finals to the Toronto Maple Leafs 2 games to 1.

Center Art Chapman had another fantastic season and his 28 assists led the NHL for the second consecutive year. Sweeney Schriner won the scoring race with 45 points and was a First Team All-Star. Schriner and Chapman had 8 and 12 penalty minutes respectively and finished 2nd and 4th in voting for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy while Schriner was third in voting for the Hart Memorial Trophy as league MVP.
