Background[]

The University of Montreal dropped out of the league this season because of financial problems and the four-year rule. This rule only permitted players to play a maximum of four years in college athletics. Montreal could not ice a competitive team under this rule. Neither could Queen's University, which continued out of the league.

Both Queen's and Montreal, and for that matter McGill University and the University of Toronto, entered teams in their provincial senior leagues. Queen's and Toronto played in the Ontario Hockey Assoociation while McGill and Montreal entered the Montreal Senior Group. There was no four-year rule in the senior league.

McGill and Toronto were the only teams registered. They played a playoff series for the title. Since there were only two teams in the league, the champion could not challenge for the Allan Cup. Canadian Amateur Hockey Association rules specified that a league needed at least three teams for the winner to be involved with the Allan Cup.
