Regular Season[]

Marty Barry played his first NHL game during the Americans season opener on November 15, 1927. He'd play eight more games before being dispatched to the minors and signed away by the Boston Bruins. Barry was the NHL's top scorer of the 1930's (tied with Busher Jackson), six times leading the Bruins and Detroit Red Wings in scoring while winning the Stanley Cup twice with the Red Wings.

During the December 3, 1927 game against the Montreal Canadiens, goalie Joe Miller was injured with the Canadiens ahead 4-0. Miller was replaced for the last 19 minutes by forward Normie Himes who held the Habs scoreless.

After being suspended and released from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Sammy Rothschild was signed by the Americans and played his first game for them during the 4-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators on January 7, 1928.

After playing the first 28 games of the season, Joe Miller was replaced in net by Jake Forbes for the rest of the year. Through an injury during the 1928 Stanley Cup Finals, Miller would play net for the New York Rangers and win the Stanley Cup.
